The UK left the EU on 1 January 2021. As a result, the EU GDPR ceased to directly apply to the UK, but effectively became part of UK domestic law through the UK GDPR which is the amended version of the EU GDPR. There are likely to be significant changes to the UK data protection regime this year partly as a result of the Data Protection and Digital Information Bill. Additionally, the ICO has changed its approach to regulatory action and is also being far more transparent about actions taken and complaints received.
